FTTF 16 Months of Service

December 2013 marks FTTF 16th month of patient service. In total we have supported 12 patients and fully sponsored (monthly financial support) 6 patients/families. We have distributed nearly $10,000 funds to those sponsored and distributed nearly 50 "Fight Bags" to local clinics. We have managed multiple meal calendars, distributed multiple "Fight Blankets" and have spent countless time in fellowship with our patients. Our initial goal for sponsorship was to max out at 5 patients sponsored per month and January 1st 2014, we will reach this goal! We will officially have 5 patients full time along with meal calendars for at least 3 of those.

It is quite exciting to bare witness to the work that FTTF is doing in the lives of patients and families. Incredible relationships have been established and support systems strengthened. Faith's renewed and financial support given. Volunteers and board members continue to report how much even they are impacted by the patients we serve. Each month as we check in on our patients progress, we are amazed at the strength they possess and the drive they have to fight their disease's. Many will live on chemo for the duration, others will have to learn to live with the effects of harsh and cruel (yet necessary) treatments. We understand that survivorship then becomes the new norm. Supporting patients even beyond the acute phase of treatment will certainly be a developing goal for FTTF.

Additionally, each month I am continually humbled and honored by the financial and volunteer support that this organization continues to receive. Apparently God continues to provide and doors continue to open. We are so very grateful to those who continue to support our mission and allow us to impact the lives of patients battling breast and gyn cancer. A Special Thank YOU to Clear Creek Community Church GoOp leaders and small groups for your interest and investments into our patients. We are so grateful to be a part of such a service driven community.

Other news:

FTTF Blankets!!

Here are some examples of the blankets we have made for a few of our patients. The feedback we have received is that they are cherished and loved. Being able
to give comfort even when we are not there is so special!

Thank you Cy-woods Cadette's

Thank you Cy- Woods Cadette's for your generous and amazing donation to FTTF! Your donation will assist FTTF in supporting 4 patients for over 3 months! What a blessing this will be! Special thank you to Lauren Filkins, a beautiful and bright leader for nominating our organization for this fundraiser.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

This article describes the harsh reality many times met when survivors are told  "you are done & you are cancer free". Clearly much work is needed in the world of survivorship! FTTF hopes to be part of the fabric of the solution & work that is required to meet the needs of the survivors. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/cafe/treatment-for-breast-cancer-survivors-shouldn-t-end-when-they-re-declared-cancer-free

This is a message I received just this week from the daughter of one of our patients we have been supporting..... " Thank you and your organization for helping my family. You guys really made a difference and my mother always told me how sweet you were and how much she appreciated you guys. Just know that you made an impact on my mom and she genuinely cared for you and thought you were terrific." This young girl lost her Mom to cancer in April 2013. Her sweet mother was our very 1st patient we supported.

The more people who hear about this amazing event, the better it will be!! If you have any questions please call me at 281 744 1786 or Hillary Hunter at 713 252 2184. Thanks so much!!

Notice to Public re: Colorado/Texas Organization scam

It has come to our (FTTF) attention that there is a woman named Elizabeth Bateman from Steamboat Springs, CO who was arrested and being charged with fraud. She set up a fake organization named Colorado Friends Through The Fight. Please understand that organization has absolutely NO affiliation or connection with our FTTF here in Texas

I am sadden to know there are people who would make such poor decisions and possibly harm organizations  which have set out to assist those who are real cancer fighters.  See the attached link for more detail.

Friends Thru The Fight, Inc (our organization) is a 501c3 organization and we continue to serve those breast and gyn cancer patients in the Galvseton County area. Please see out website friendsthruthefight.org

FTTF Spring Update

Wow, it's been a long time since I've updated our FTTF blog. So much has happened and so much is coming up for our organization. Recently we represented FTTF at the UTMB Nurses week with an informational booth. We provided information regarding our organization and signed a number of potential volunteers.

Currently, we have sponsored 2official patients with 1 new applicant anticipated for this month. We have unofficially cared for 7 additional patients through other supportive measures. We are excited to continue to grow and reach more women/patients in need in  our county.

Please stay tuned. We are anticipating a Golf tournament for July 2013. Details to follow........
